Ibiza hosts the first edition of COBRA RACE on 7th september at FECOEV

The Recinto Ferial de Ibiza will host the first edition of COBRA RACE Ibiza on 7 September, an event that promises to become a benchmark on the island and on the national functional sports scene.

The official presentation, held last friday at Decathlon Ibiza, was attended by Sonia Soriano, director of the Association for the Promotion of Functional Sports in the Balearic Islands, Toni Barceló, sports director of COBRA RACE, and Álex Minchiotti, councillor for Trade and Markets at the Ajuntament d'Eivissa.

During her speech, Sonia Soriano highlighted the importance of bringing functional sports closer to society because of their benefits for physical and mental health, as well as the values of self-improvement, inclusion, and camaraderie. ‘Our desire is to consolidate COBRA RACE Ibiza as an event with national and international reach, following in the footsteps of other major sporting events on the island such as the Santa Eulària Marathon and the Ibiza Half Marathon,’ she said.

For his part, Toni Barceló explained that COBRA RACE is a circuit of stations that tests strength, endurance, mobility and mindset, designed to be demanding but accessible to all levels. ‘The response has been spectacular: gyms, boxing clubs and trainers in Ibiza are already preparing their teams for the challenge,’ he said.

As a preview, on 6th september there will be a special activation by Zona Chisme on Passeig Joan Carles I, next to the monument to the Ibizan farmer, open to the general public. In addition, on the day of the presentation itself, activities and sporting challenges were held at Decathlon Ibiza to give a first taste of the competition.

The event is supported by institutions and collaborating companies such as Tesla, Decathlon, Baleària, Invisa Hotels, Fibwi, El Corte Inglés, Coca-Cola and HORECA Baleares, as well as the local sports community, and already has dozens of athletes registered.
