Antonia, a resident of Ibiza, hesitated between whether she liked the folkloric dances of the participating countries or the tastings of typical food that are handed out during the Trobada de Pobles, at the Recinto Ferial.
The councillor for Citizen Participation, Marilina Ribas, highlighted yesterday how much all the groups were looking forward to bringing back this great cultural celebration.
Invited by the Casa de Cantabria in Ibiza and by the Government of that community, the Coro Ronda La Encina from Santander was one of the first to arrive at the venue. Wearing their traditional costumes, they recalled that this was the third time they had travelled to the island to show their regional folklore made up of mountain songs and habaneras.
In the case of the Association of Paraguayans in Ibiza, its members were going to present different dishes of their typical food, such as Chipa Guasú or Vorí-Vorí. ‘We are an important community on the island, some 5,000, and we are very happy that this Trobada will be held again,’ they commented. From Barcelona, Paraguayan dancers invited for the occasion also brought their joyful traditional dances to the island.
At the Recinto, Bolivian residents in Ibiza yesterday showed off their colourful costumes and typical dances from the Andean part and other parts of the country. ‘We are a small community on the island, but we are very happy to be in Ibiza and we feel very welcome,’ they said.
Other groups, such as the Ecuadorian or Filipino groups in the Pitiusas, explained to the attendees some particularities of their traditional food, such as the ingredients or when they are usually eaten. Horacio, from the Association of Ecuadorians, acknowledged that ‘the country is always in our hearts’.
Lucía, fallera mayor infantil de Sant Antoni, assured that dressing up in her typical costume means a lot to her. With the Federació de Colles de Ball i Cultura Popular d'Eivissa, the Trobada also included a representation of traditional Ibizan folklore.
